So the trip to Iceland is nearly complete!

Iceland was a great place to visit, especially for the natural sights!  We saw many amazing waterfalls (including one where you could walk behind it), an amazing geyser and many interesting sights in the city.

I was surprised to learn that in Iceland almost all of their electricity is generated from geo-thermal sources.  Basically, that means there is lots of hot steam coming up from the earth’s crust.  So, they have put large turbines and electricity plants on top of them to convert that steam into power.  As a result of this, the electricity costs are low.  Also, they don’t have hot water tanks at people’s houses.  Instead they have a network of hot water pipes that deliver the hot water, from massive storage tanks in the centre or town, to your shower head!

Additionally, they use the hot water lines, that are delivering hot water to your shower, to also heat the roads and sidewalks for when it snows.  Very smart!

Finally, they have some odd commercialization here.  For example, they have TGI Fridays, KFC, and Ruby Tuesday but no Starbucks or McDonalds.  The later two say it is too expensive to bring the goods here!
